Franklin D. Roosevelt was sworn-in for his third term as the 32nd President of the United States, and Henry A. Wallace was sworn-in as the 33rd Vice President of the United States.

FACTS, FIRSTS, AND PRECEDENTS

First and last time a president was inaugurated for a third term. The 22nd Amendment to the Constitution limited Presidential terms to two; President and Mrs. Roosevelt hosted 1,200 guests at the White House for a buffet luncheon consisting of tomato soup, salad, beef, ham, tongue, cake, ice cream, and coffee.
